GLP-2 and Intestinal Mucosal Physiology Research
GLP-2 is a 33-amino acid peptide co-secreted with GLP-1 from intestinal L-cells. Unlike GLP-1, GLP-2 acts primarily on the gastrointestinal tract through its own distinct receptor and has been the subject of significant research in intestinal biology and mucosal physiology.
Mechanisms of Action
GLP-2 has been extensively studied for its trophic effects on intestinal epithelium, including its role in stimulating crypt cell proliferation and reducing enterocyte apoptosis. A GLP-2 analogue (Teduglutide) has been approved clinically for short bowel syndrome, making GLP-2 one of the few research peptides with direct translational clinical validation.
